This is to certify that Sami-Severi Sjöberg successfully completed the Capstone Innovation Project (16 January to 28 April 2026) at Turku University of Applied Sciences as a member of the project team. The team was tasked with further developing a User Interface (UI) for a federated learning platform, building on an earlier proof-of-concept design and implementation.
The team was provided with a set of broad focus areas, with objectives defined at a high level. This approach granted them significant autonomy, both in shaping the solution and in determining how to proceed. The team took full ownership of their work, independently organizing roles, responsibilities, and execution.
Acting in the role of the project owner, the project outcome was assessed at the group level, based on the team’s collective performance and deliverable.
The end result was truly impressive, exceeding expectations by a wide margin. The UI is elegant and visually appealing, with a highly professional look and feel. It features a well-thought-out set of functionalities, and the designers clearly demonstrate strong attention to detail. It is also remarkable how much the team accomplished within such a limited timeframe. The UI is engaging and sparks genuine interest. It is evident that this work reflects the efforts of talented professionals.
This work involved a modern technology stack, including Linux, containers (Docker), REST APIs (python) backed by SQLite, React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, the Mantine component library, Vite, TanStack Query, and Git for version control. The team also integrated NiiVue, a browser-based medical imaging viewer to provide interactive 3D visualization of volumetric scans and model segmentation overlays directly within the UI.
This deliverable is a highly important contribution to our federated learning platform, significantly enhancing both its visual appeal and overall functionality.
I am pleased to recommend the project team members for future professional opportunities and I am confident that they will be valuable assets in their future projects.
